Sandals Negril, outside

We booked a six-night stay at the Sandals Negril Beach Resort and Spa in Jamaica. Sandals is one of those 'all-inclusive' resorts -- you pay one fat price up-front for everything. That includes a luxury room (we picked the Honeymoon Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room, which had an ocean view, stocked minibar, marble bath, room service, the works), all meals at the four restaurants, all drinks (yes, liquor too) at the many bars (there's even a swim-up bar in one of the pools!), nightly entertainment, and tons of water activities that we were reallyreallyreally looking forward to, such as snorkeling, scuba diving, water-skiing, wind-surfing, kayaking, and more.

There is also a full-service European-style spa on the premises -- those services cost extra, but we did splurge for massage and other treatments while we were there.

Negril, Jamaica, is famous for it's seven-mile long beach and it's decadent hippie origins. Apparently, this was one of the places to be for rich dropouts in the '60s. The area still has a slightly wicked ambiance. The whole beach is lined with low-rise luxury resorts, so it did run the risk of being extremely touristy. Eh, whatever -- once we were lazing by the brilliant blue Carribean sea, nothing else mattered!
