Other Details ~ Registry
We registered for wedding gifts at the following places.

casual dinnerware Target: Our largest list, yet easily the least expensive. At Target, we registered for casual black stoneware, red glass accent dinnerware, vintage-style everyday utensils, a few kitchen appliances, random cooking gadgets, lots of camping equipment, Playstation games, DVDs, picture frames, cat goodies (can't leave Melusine out!), car accessories, and various household items.

We received probably half to two-thirds of the things we registered for here. As we suspected, our friends loved buying us DVDs and camping gear (one person even added camping accessories, like a tent stake mallet and biodegradable toilet paper!). We also got most of the kitchen appliances on our list, and much of the casual dinnerware too.

There were a half-dozen duplicate gifts from the Target registry, which we had to return. A small bother, but not a huge deal (and, of course, when we returned the duplicates, we got store credit to purchase things still left on our registry!).

Old Country Roses Avery's of California
3666 Stevens Creek Blvd.
(at San Thomas Expwy., behind Kiddie World)
San Jose, CA 95117
(408) 984-1111
(800) 8-AVERYS (800-828-3797)
A small, select list of fine china, fancy utensils, and a few crystal pieces. Our china pattern is Old Country Roses by Royal Doulton (Trystan already had four place settings and the tea set), and our silverware pattern is Louisiana by Oneida. These are available in other stores as well, though Avery's prices are lower than the manufacturer's list price. For those who couldn't shop at Avery's in person, there was a toll-free 800 number to find out what we've registered for and shop over the phone.

About half the silverware and a couple place settings of the china were given to us, plus some of the crystal. We didn't tell a lot of people about this registry because we already had some of the china, and we knew few friends would be interested in shopping for this stuff.

The people at Avery's were very pleasant to deal with. They mailed us notes when things had been ordered through them to let us know when the items would be shipped. The only minor problem we had was not with Avery's, but with relatives who knew our china pattern already and bought items elsewhere without ever consulting our Avery's registry. We got a few rather random china pieces, but, again, no big deal. We can always use extra tea cups!

linens - these are the styles, but ours are only in dark colors! Macy's: A mid-sized list filled with bed, bath, and table linens, plus a few serving ware and kitchen items. The bed linens we chose were in purple, grey, and black, while our bath linens were in burgundy and black. Our Macy's registry was also accessible at other Federated department stores (Bon Marché, Burdines, Rich's, Lazarus, Goldsmith's, and Stern's), as well as online through the Macy's/Wedding Network website.

This registry was cleaned out fast, mostly by the bridal shower. People seem to like shopping at Macy's, so much so that friends gave us gift cards for the store when they saw that our registry was already bought up. We didn't have any problems with this registry, except that the beautiful burgundy brocade Tommy Hilfiger accent towels we wanted went out of stock three months before the wedding. Also, we had two items that must have been mislabeled because we received the wrong colors. Still have to exchange those.
