We booked the most excellent DJ King Raffi, renown from San Jose nightclubs and Live 105 modern rock radio. During dinner, we had mellow instrumental stuff, then for dancing we had modern rock -- heavy on the '80s new wave -- plus a little classic rock for our folks. Here's a complete list of the song recommendations we gave to Raffi. The music was a big, big hit with our friends, and the dance floor was always filled. Plus, Raffi is a great guy to work with and genuinely nice to know. Highly recommended! We had discussed our "first dance" song, and the top contender was "One More Time" by the Cure (though Trystan really wanted "Somebody" by Depeche Mode). But Thomas was writing another angelic synthpop ballad that would work for the first dance. He finished recording "Forever Angel" just in time -- the Wednesday before the wedding! Raffi played it for the first dance, and it was beautiful. We didn't do the typical parent dances. We had Raffi dedicate Natalie Merchant's "Kind and Generous" to our parents and wedding party because it's absolutely perfect in sentiment. Then we had all the parents and wedding party dance with us informally. No clichéd mother-son, father-daughter stuff.
